Want sharper images at lower shutter speeds?  Famous photographer Joe McNally shows us a tip on how to hold your camera to achieve this.

Most people are a“right eye” shooter normally, but I’m going to try this technique using my left eye instead and see what happens.  He says that you’ll be able to shoot at shutter speeds (while hand-holding your camera) that you never thought possible.  Give it a try and see what happens!  Check out the video at the end of this post.

The digital camera - Blown highlights -canon digital cameras - a view.  An article on understanding what Blown highlights are.

The histogram function on digital cameras is a picture lifesaver. Before digital there was no way of seeing blown highlights or dramatically underexposed areas, but today you can quickly assess the image and its histogram and correct the exposure to get it close to perfect.
One of the important uses of the histogram on the camera is ensuring that there are no blown or burned out highlights in pictures.
Loss of details in the highlights is the biggest problem with digital images. In most cases there will be details left to salvage in the dark areas, but once the light areas go pure white (or pure any color - you can also blow one color channel at the time), there is nothing left to save.

Blown-out highlights is the enemy number one of the digital photographer, and they should be avoided using all means. Unless it’s a goal in itself to overexpose, like in high key pictures, you should try your best to avoid loosing details in the light areas of the picture. Details can often be found in the dark areas, but once they are gone in the highlights, that’s it. They’re gone.

This can be avoided by looking at the histograms.

Canon PowerShot SD880 IS fulfills the promise of the wide-angle pocket digital camera, pulling it off with style. The Canon SD880 has larger buttons that are easier to read and operate, but not so easy that you’ll accidentally activate them. And the camera’s front flares out into a nice grip. The Canon SD880’s rear LCD has Canon’s new coating, which reduces glare and increases contrast, making for easier operation and more enjoyable playback. Optical quality is noteworthy for its overall sharpness, and the built-in image stabilization helps in low light. Chromatic aberration is an issue at wide-angle, though it’s quite common in pocket camera lenses. What’s impressive is the PowerShot SD880’s corner sharpness and relatively low distortion. Color meets the needs of the average consumer, offering punchy images, and incandescent performance is nothing short of admirable. The flash is weak at telephoto, but does okay at wide-angle. Most impressive is the Canon SD880 IS’s low noise and excellent noise suppression. Chroma noise is nearly nonexistent in shadows, with only luminance noise that looks rather film-like. The Canon SD880 IS is an excellent pocket digital camera, and an easy Dave’s Pick.

When I first got my digital camera I was anxious to get some pictures.  It was spring and the weather was overcast.  I never thought that my shoots, would be good enough for photo stock.  I was surprised indeed.  The clown turned-out!  In the picture the clown in his colorful red costume is standing under the largest puffy white cloud;  I think that is what made the picture.  Of course the new digital cameras like the kodak digital cameras

take great pics.

I took some pictures of houses, new houses in a new subdivision.  Of course the houses looked great being new, and with all that great new landscaping.  But, I think it was the clouds that made the picture!  They were dark billowy storm clouds.  One of those pictures is a best seller.

Questions?                                                                                                                                                         Okay, despite the fact that we see digital cameras everywhere these days and that film cameras are long considered ‘ancient’ or ‘vintage’, you will find that some professional photographers still choose to use film cameras. Why, because digital cameras can have their advantages and disadvantages too and in many cases, film cameras are better than digital cameras.  Fujifilm FinePix - view of the digital cameras.

If you’re planning to purchase a digital camera, here is a brief synopsis of some pros and cons of shooting digital:
Advantages
* More often, better results
Then instant picture feedback allows you to make immediate adjustments to your camera settings and composition of your picture hence this allows you to produce better quality results more often.
* Cost
It’s irrefutable that digital cameras tend to be more expensive than film cameras, but think of all the money you would have spent on buying and processing film.
* Control
With the technology built into many digital cameras, you have dar greater control over the final image than ever had with film.
* Image Quality
This may be a little controversial but compared to similar 35mm cameras, digital cameras are superior at picking out details particularly in low-light conditions
* Flexibility
You have the flexibility to turn your pictures into various mediums with the wonders of digital code, be it interactive web sites, greeting cards, calendars, and tons more!

Olympus stylus a great series of the Olympus digital cameras.  Information on the basic qualities of light. Light is life!
Understanding natural light is a “must” for good landscape images.

The job of a landscape photographer is to record a scene. Yet, photographers often fail to capture what it felt like to be actually at a scene.

A good landscape photographer arrives at a scene early, and waits for the scene to unfold. Waiting patiently for changing colours and changing mood, which all go along with the change of the weather.

Vital to all of this is light - natural light and all the elements it brings to a scene.

To be able to use light correctly and creatively we first must understand it. Once we understand it we can use it to our advantage in creating beautifully, dramatic landscape images.

There are three basic qualities of light: intensity, direction and colour.

Intensity: refers to the strength of light. If the sun is high in the sky, light can be harsh and too strong. Cloudy days bring soft and defused light.
